- COMPLEX CONCRETE STRUCTURES BUILT WHERE OTHERS WON'T BID
When the site is tight, the timeline is unforgiving, or the structure doesn't fit a standard scope, this is where we go to work.
Southern Structural takes on concrete projects that don’t fit a standard category: animal enclosures built around active habitats, structural shells requiring shotcrete, post-tensioned residential slabs, and underground drainage structures tying into live roadways. If a project needs design coordination, custom formwork, and a crew that can adapt on-site, it’s a fit here
These jobs share one thing in common: something about the site, schedule, or structure rules out a standard approach. We handle the engineering coordination, the specialty concrete work (shotcrete, post-tensioning, custom shells), and the execution in-house, so nothing gets lost between design and pour.
Scope of Services
Our specialty structures work covers concrete projects that fall outside standard categories, built for zoos, municipalities, developers, and private clients across Florida.
We self-perform formwork, rebar, and concrete placement in-house, and coordinate design where needed, so unusual site conditions and structural requirements get solved by one team, not passed between subcontractors.
- Structural shells and shotcrete work
- Post-tensioned concrete structures
- Custom formwork for non-standard geometry
- Construction phased around live operations or habitats
- Underground drainage structures beneath active roadways
- Site concrete around active facilities
- Verti-Block and specialty retaining systems
- Design coordination for complex scopes
Our Approach
Every specialty project starts with identifying what makes it non-standard: an active habitat, a live roadway overhead, unusual structural loads. We solve for that constraint first, then build the formwork and crew plan around it.
We don’t turn down a job because it’s complicated. Our crew and in-house coordination mean we can adapt shotcrete, post-tensioning, or custom formwork to whatever the site demands.
Featured Projects
-
Disney Animal Kingdom Crocodile Enclosure, Orlando
Full concrete scope for the back-of-house Nile crocodile enclosure: poured-in-place structural walls, Verti-Block retaining walls, site concrete, and a custom shotcrete pool shell, built around an active animal habitat.
-
Junction Boxes, Osceola County
Two junction boxes tying new and existing drainage runs into an active roadway above. Nearly 100 yards of concrete and 8 pipe connections, built with heavy steel and 2' slabs to perform reliably beneath a main thoroughfare.
-
Coastal Residential Structure
Post-tensioned and reinforced cast-in-place walls with a second-floor slab supporting a pool and waterfall feature, built to coastal structural demands.
