Headwalls

Precision-formed transitions where culverts, pipes, and drainage structures meet open water.

Southern Structural builds cast-in-place headwalls for FDOT, municipalities, and general contractors across Central Florida. Headwalls take the load where water exits a culvert or pipe system, often with multiple pipe penetrations, tight grade changes, and custom bevels around in-place pipe. We form, reinforce, and pour every headwall in-house, matched to exact pipe count, size, and alignment.

Whether it’s a stem wall and spread footing system with five pipe penetrations, or a headwall built adjacent to active wetlands with zero disruption allowed, we build to spec the first time. Misalignment here means rework on the whole drainage system, so precision isn’t optional. It’s the job.

Scope of Services

Our headwall work covers cast-in-place structures built to exact pipe and culvert specifications for public and private infrastructure projects throughout Florida.

We self-perform all formwork, rebar installation, and concrete placement in-house, no subcontracting the critical work. That means tighter tolerances, cleaner coordination, and one point of accountability from mobilization to final pour.

  • Single, double, and triple-barrel headwalls
  • Stem wall and spread footing systems
  • Custom bevels around in-place pipe
  • Multi-pipe penetration structures (up to 19+ pipes)
  • Full design package coordination
  • FDOT and municipal spec compliance
  • Wetland-adjacent, zero-disruption construction
  • Phased construction to match contractor scheduling

Our Approach

Every headwall project starts with a precise take-off from the pipe specifications it ties into: count, size, and grade. There’s no tolerance for guesswork. The structure has to match to the inch, whether it’s five pipes or nineteen.

We don’t wait on subcontractors. Our crew handles forming, steel, and pour, so alignment stays exact from layout through final cure, even on sites with extreme grade changes or wetland restrictions.
